Father’s Day happens to fall on one of the most picturesque days of the year in Vienna, Virginia. The warm June sun makes it a perfect environment to go on a nature hike with dad, go fishing, check out a brewery, or visit one of the many local car shows scheduled to take place on Father’s Day. Whether you’re a new dad with young children, an old grandfather who has come out to see his family, or even a father figure to someone you know, Vienna has many places for the young and old throughout the month that can help you bond with your children or family members.

The Town of Vienna is surrounded by hundreds of attractions within driving or walking distance for families to take advantage of during Father’s Day. Many well-rated and historic restaurants have special offerings in the town of Vienna for the holiday, and even more shops and unique local attractions provide special gifts curated just for dad, no matter what his personality might be.

Father's Day Events in and Near Vienna

Looking for something low-key and local? Try the Vienna Cars and Coffee event that takes place in the Cedar Park Shopping center in Vienna. The group collects food and donations to give to local charities, but they also gather together and chat with each other in the parking lot, enjoying local coffee and breakfast. These gatherings take place on the first and third Sundays of each month.

Of course, if your father or children are more antique car enthusiasts, drive them out to the Sully Annual Car Show near the Sully Plantation in Chantilly, just a few miles away from Vienna. This annual show boasts more than 200 antique cars, a flea market, tours of Sully’s Plantation, and music and food.

In the town of Vienna, if you prefer tea over coffee and cars, the Daddy and Me Father’s Day Afternoon Tea at Lily’s Chocolate & Coffee offers a British tea with a Middle Eastern twist. All fathers and children who attend will receive gifts.

Crack Open a Cold One with Dad

If it’s not raining out, it might be time to take a walk to one of these local breweries and inns in Vienna that offer refreshing and brisk beers and cold ones for the dads and their adult children. Take a walk–or a bike–down the Washington and Old Dominion Trail to try some of the Caboose Tavern’s refreshments and food. Sit indoors or outdoors and sample some of their coffee, beer, or nachos.

The Bear Branch Tavern in Vienna also offers unique menus, including brunch specialties like shrimp and grits, oysters, a falafel burger, and a nitro cold brew Irish coffee with whiskey and brown sugar.

For a British pub experience, try the Hawk and Griffin, with a full English breakfast and Scottish Eggs Benedict. Come later in the day for a classic fish and chips or bangers and mash.

Bait and Tackle

If your dad is a little old-fashioned, he might enjoy a little fishing nearby. Places like Wolftrap Stream Valley Park (near Tyson’s Corner) and Wildwood Park offer plenty of options for fishing. Trout, eels, and largemouth bass can be found in these local spots. Just make sure your fishing license is up to date before heading out to enjoy the sun.

Another spot is Lake Fairfax, which is accessible from Hunter Mill Road or Baron Cameron Road near Roer’s Zoofari. If you have family members who don’t want to fish, they can participate in the low-key family day that will be held at Lake Fairfax on Father’s Day.

Special Local Gift Ideas for Dad

If your dad has unique interests that might be hard to match or has an open mind for pretty much anything, try some of the local Vienna shops that carry specialty goods and merchandise. Invest in a grandfather clock or a younger edition of a timepiece from the Vienna Clock Shop, located on Church Street. More than 500 clocks are available to be purchased, and if you have an old clock that could be restored, bring it in for repairs! Visiting the historic clock shop can be an experience in and of itself.

For the nerdier dads or the dads who want to bond with their kids over comic books, Big Planet Comics on Maple Avenue offers many selections for adults, teens, and kids.
