Northern Virginia is home to so much American history and patriotism- making it the perfect place to celebrate the anniversary of our country's independence. From parades and watermelon eating contests to fireworks and historical reenactments, Northern VA has everything you could possibly need to celebrate the 4th of July. We put together 6 exciting ways to spend the holiday this year:
Herndon 4th of July Celebration

Join the Town of Herndon on Thursday, July 4th for a patriotic event with fun for the whole family. Start with some games, bingo, and arts-and-crafts that will entertain both you and the kids for hours. Later, jam out to some classic covers by the band Guys in Thin Ties, and end the night with an incredible fireworks show choreographed to music.
Fireworks at George Washington’s Mount Vernon
What better place to celebrate Independence Day than George Washington’s Mount Vernon? On July 4th, enjoy spectacular made-for-daytime fireworks over the scenic Potomac River while watching some incredible historical reenactments. You can’t get much more patriotic than this!
Vienna 4th of July Celebration

If you’re looking to get wet and wild this 4th of July, don’t miss the town of Vienna’s celebration. The kids (and maybe even the adults) will go crazy over the giant water slides, sprinklers, and water games. Also enjoy tons of amazing food trucks, crafts, puppet shows, and live kids' music.
City of Fairfax Independence Day Parade
Downtown Fairfax
Watch the city of Fairfax come alive for the annual Independence Day Celebration. Kick off July 4th with the largest parade in Virginia complete with marching bands, floats, old fire engines, and much more. The parade is happening rain or shine- so you will have a solid plan for celebrating the 4th no matter what.
Great Falls
Starting at 6pm, the picturesque and serene Turner Farm is offering a night to remember with live music, games, contests, and food trucks. Bring the whole family to tailgate before the big fireworks show begins after dusk.
Downtown Manassas
Celebrate Independence day with one of the biggest fireworks displays in Northern Virginia in historic downtown Manassas. Enjoy fun activities for the kids such as a bicycle decorating contest, bubble gum blowing contest, and even a watermelon eating contest. Also be sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets for the incredible fireworks show starting at 9:15pm.
